R aj Upadhyay is a governing council board member at the Ministry of Art and Culture's Children Academy, New Delhi. He is a noted actor, child drama expert, director and acting teacher in India . He contributed immensely to the CBSE board in designing the syllabus for Theatre. He has also produced and directed one of the most popular radio serials, 'Vishwa Katha Collage' for All India Radio, Delhi. A philosophy graduate from the University of Allahabad, he holds a Post Graduate degree in History from Himachal Pradesh University. Nurturing his passion for theatre, he consequently undertook training in theatre from Bhartendu Academy of Dramatic Arts, Lucknow.
padhyay's career spans a wide spectrum – from theatre to television, from being onstage to running the show backstage. He has worked with many famous theatre personalities including Anamika Haksar, Kirti Jain, Bhanu Bharti and Rajendra Nath as well as acted in critically acclaimed plays like 'Exception is the Rule', 'Kavikahani', and 'Ek Qurbani Gumnaam', among others. He also performed as a lead actor in several television series such as Adal- Badal, Tahni Ke Phool, and others.
aj Upadhyay has directed the critically acclaimed mega environmental play 'Gandhi Tum Zinda Ho', on gandhian philosophy and 'Jan Se Man Ki Jai Ho', on women's issues - both of which were highly appreciated in the media. He has directed bollywood's comedy king, Asarani ji in the comedy play "Kya Family Hai ", Padamshri Tom Alter in " Delhiciously Chekhov " and "Ye Jo Mohabbat Hai". He has also directed 'Desi Babu Videshi Mem' & 'Matadeen @ Chand.com' with the 'Parvaaz Theatre Club' in 2005 -06 and "Raja Harishchandra" a hindustani musical nautanki in 2013.
He is also a part of several television as well as film projects. His proposed film script 'PURVAAI' was selected and awarded as the best entry out of 300 scripts in 2006-07 by Smt. Jaya Bachchan, Chairman of Film Vikaas Development Board [Film Bandhu] Uttar Pradesh.
e has also conducted theatre workshops for children at the National School of Drama as a part of their 'Theatre in Education' project. He has been successfully organizing theatre productions and workshops in various schools and colleges across the nation. He has also worked as a Research Scholar for the Government of Uttar Pradesh to revive the folk art forms of Eastern U.P.
Currently, he heads the Theatre Department at Modern School, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi, wherein he has conducted more than 60 successful plays with school children. He continues to teach young children the finer points of drama and enhance their skills in acting and oration. He is also working on his dream research project to explore the scope of street theatre and to promote this powerful medium, not only in the social scenario, but to also explore the possibilities of an alliance with the advertising sector. Through his work, he seeks to discover and introduce a new concept for actualising political upliftment.
